I received my veterinary degree from the University of Lubumbashi in the DRC, then worked for the Department of Agriculture and Development in the eastern part of the country before joining the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project in 2004.
My duties include monitoring mountain gorillas on the DRC side of the Virungas and Grauers gorillas in the Kahuzi-Biega National Park, which is in the south Kivu province. With my colleague, Dr. Eddy Kambale, I take care of the two newest infant mountain gorillas in Goma, DRC – Ndeze and Ndakasi, and also Mapendo, the female Grauers gorilla seized at the beginning of 2008. I make regular visits to check on the health of the orphans. It is a great responsibility to care for them and also a great privilege to see them play and develop.
